Dzongu indigenous community experience offers an opportunity to spend meaningful time with the Lepcha community, one of the oldest indigenous communities of the eastern Himalayas.

The route we operate, day by day.

Day 0

Overnight travel to NJP

Travel overnight to New Jalpaiguri Railway Station.

Day 1

NJP → Dzongu

Arrive at NJP in the morning and transfer to Dzongu. Travel time is approximately 6 to 7 hours. After arriving, check in to your homestay and meet your host family before an introduction to the local community. Enjoy a traditional dinner prepared by your hosts. Overnight stay.

Day 2

Village exploration, cooking and storytelling

Begin the morning exploring the surrounding village with members of the community. Learn about daily routines, local customs and the traditions that continue to shape Lepcha life. Following lunch, participate in a traditional cooking experience where local families share recipes and explain the ingredients used in everyday meals. Conclude the day with conversations and storytelling led by community members. Overnight stay.

Day 3

Indigenous knowledge and community life

Spend the day learning about indigenous knowledge, local customs and the relationship between the Lepcha community and their landscape. Continue interacting with local residents through relaxed village experiences before sharing a final traditional dinner together. Overnight stay.

Farewell → NJP
